Fountain Square

Fountain Square (abbreviated as FSQ) is one of seven designated cultural districts in Indianapolis, Indiana. Located right outside the city’s downtown district, Fountain Square is home to three designated national historic districts, the Laurel and Prospect, the State and Prospect, and the Virginia Avenue districts, all of which were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. The neighborhood derives its name from the successive fountains that have been prominently featured at the intersection of Virginia Avenue, East Prospect Street, and Shelby Street.

Only a mile and a half from downtown Indianapolis, Fountain Square is located at the intersection of Virginia Avenue at Shelby and Prospect Streets. Fountain Square was the first commercial historic district in Indiana, its existing buildings span more than a century of development from 1871 to the present. Today, Fountain Square is one of the six Indianapolis Cultural Districts and is linked to the Indianapolis Cultural Trail, a world-class urban bike and pedestrian path that connects to downtown Indianapolis.

The commercial district is poised once again for reinvestment and improvement to continue the tradition as a vibrant entertainment area. Bed Bug Exterminator Indianapolis

Since 1928, the Fountain Square Theatre Building has anchored the corner at Shelby and Prospect Streets in Fountain Square. The area has weathered many changes in Fountain Square from a vibrant commercial and theater district to suburban flight beginning in the 1960s. Thanks to the efforts of many organizations, groups, and individuals, the area is again developing as a primary live/work community for artists and independent entrepreneurs. The gradual transformation of the commercial district has attracted growing investment in surrounding residential areas, with both long-time residents and new homeowners participating in improving the quality of area homes.
